形態特徵

• Culms 3-12 m tall, 4-12 cm in diam., glaucous when young, becoming deep green with a glaucous ring below nodes; internodes 10-40 cm long, grooved or flattened on upper culm; walls 4-8 mm thick; branches 2 at each node.
• Sheath of culm deciduous, subcoriaceous, sparsely hairy and pale yellow with dark brown spots outside, entire; auricles of sheath small or nearly inconspicuous, with dark brown bristles; ligule of sheath convex, yellowish pubescent at apex; blade of sheath subulate or linearlanceolate, entire. Leaves 2-3, sometimes 4-5, narrowly lanceolate, 8-20 cm long, 1.2-2 cm broad, acute, base cuneate, densely spinulose-scabrous along one margin, sparsely so along other, dark green above, pale green beneath, veins 5-7, veinlets 10, tessellate; petiole short, 4-9 mm long; auricles of leaf inconspicuous; ligule of leaf convex, aristate; sheath of leaf 3-6 cm long, glabrous outside.
• Spikelets usually 2-4 at nodes, alternate, 304 cm long, 2-4-flowered; outer bract coriaceous, glabrous, 17 mm long, 4 mm wide, veins 13-15, hairy; paleas 11 mm long, 3 mm wide, bilobed at apex, veins 1-2 between keels and 3 between each keel and edge; gynoecium 9 mm long; ovary globose, glabrous; style long, dividing above into 2 feathery stigmas; stamens 3, filaments long, anthers 8 mm long; lodicules 3.3 mm long, 1.5 mm wide, glabrous outside, margins entire.

• 台灣 : Widely planted throughout the island, most abundantly cultivated in the center and north, to 1,550 m.
